IV.13: The four castes have been created by Me through a classification of the gunas and duties. Even though I'm the agent of that (act of classification), still know Me to be a non-agent and changeless.

IV.14: Actions do not taint Me; for Me there is no hankering for results of actions. One who knows Me thus, does not become bound by actions.

IV.15: Having known thus, duties were performed even by the ancient seekers of Liberation. Therefore, you undertake action itself as was performed earlier by the ancient ones.

IV.16: Even the intelligent are confounded as to what is action and what is inaction. I shall tell you of that action by knowing which you will become free from evil.

Summary of this lecture:

After showing the divine origin of the Yoga-science and showing how short-sighted people, tempted by the quick, alluring results, miss the great liberating power of work, Lord gives His own example to show the correct method of doing work. Lord does the great work of organizing the human society into 4 castes according to the attitudes, qualities and actions. But he tells us 'know me to be the changeless non-actor!' Why? The next verse gives the reason: I have no desire for the results of the works, so I am not bound by the actions; and this is not only for me;- anyone, who knows this will be free from the actions. The word 'I' has been used with two different (but not mutually exclusive) connotations; one refers to His physical manifestation and other to the Universally immanent.
