A Hindustani Instrumental Music Concert By

JAY GANDHI

A very talented and devoted student of the world renowned bansuri maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Jay has already been invited to perform across the globe, enthralling audiences in India, Europe, the Middle East and America. He is becoming more and more known for his sensitivity, expressive sound, and musical maturity. Initially trained in vocal music under Smt. Kum Kum Sanyal, he went on to study bansuri under Pandit Ronu Majumdar, Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao and Pandit Raghunath Seth.

He has also had the honor of providing accompaniment on bansuri for some of the most highly esteemed Hindustani Classical musicians. They include Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Nayan Ghosh, Pandit Ronu Majumdar, Pandit Raghunath Seth, Pandit Vidyadhar Vyas, Pandit Ramakant Pathak (pakhawaj), and Smt. Kum Kum Sanyal (vocalist). His musical pursuits are not limited to that of the Indian sub-continent and he has a great love for the music of the African diaspora and America's classical music and Jazz as well, studying under such Jazz luminaries as the saxophonist Gary Bartz and trumpetist Marcus Belgrave. He has since collaborated extensively with many noted Jazz musicians including composer/Jazz pianist Courtney Bryan and trumpetist Lech Wierzynski.

Chris Pereji will provide Tabla Sangat. He comes from a family of musicians. His grandfather Shri Purushotham Pereji initiated Chris into the art of tabla. Chris received further training in tabla and Hindustani music from Shri Dhonde Shivaram, Shri Dhonde Raj Babu, and Shri Molatati Vidyanandam. Chris has ably accompanied many vocalists, instrumentalists, and playback singers from US, Canada, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Chris is currently studying the art of accompaniment under Shri Subhankar Banerjee of the Farukhabad Gharana.
