- The Center's daily and weekly activities will be suspended until Saturday, September 12.

Weekend Residential Retreat - Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30

'Work and Worship' will be the topic of the residential retreat from Friday, August 28, 6:00 PM through afternoon of Sunday, August 30 conducted at the Vedanta Society of Providence by Swami Yogatmananda (Limited accommodation. Prior registration by phone/email ABSOLUTELY required. NO WALK-INs).

 

Labor Day retreat, Ridgely Manor, NY - Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6
Swami will conduct a weekend reteat on 'Yajnavalkya Maitreyi dialogue' (from Brhadaranyaka Upanishad) at Vivekananda Retreat, Ridgely Manor (NY) from Saturday, September 12 to Sunday, September 13. Bhagavad Gita class, Middletown (CT) - Sunday, September 13

Swami will conduct the monthly Bhagavad Gita class at Sri Satyanarayana Temple, 11 Training Hill Rd Middletown CT from 11:00 AM - 12:00 noon. All are welcome.

 

Universal Brotherhood day, Providence Center - Sunday, September 13

An Interfaith Symposium on 'Common Foundation of Religions' will be held at Vedanta Society of Providence on Sunday, September 13, 5:00-7:30 PM. Speakers include Swami Tyagananda, Vedanta Society, Boston, Rev James I. Ford, First Unitarian Church, Providence and Fr John P. Sullivan. There will be interfaith music and dinner.

 

 

Past Events

 

Swami's visit to Voorhees, NJ - Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26
Swami visited Voorhees, New Jersey on Saturday, July 25 and he spoke at the Hindu Temple, Berlin, NJ on 'Practice of Devotion according to Bhagavad Gita'. He returned to Providence on Sunday, July 26.

 

Five-day residential retreat at Rochester, NY - Wednesday, August 05 through Sunday, August 09

From August 05 to August 09, Swami Yogatmananda and Swami Kripamayananda of Vedanta Society of Toronto, Canada conducted a residential retreat at Rochester, NY on 'Kenopanishad', organized by Hindu Heritage Summer Camp Inc. The retreat was intense from 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM comprising meditation early in the morning followed by an hour of yoga class, 3 one-and-half hour discourses by Swami Yogatmananda on the main subject, one hour Vedantic Tales by Swami Kripamayananda, an hour of Q/A session in the evening. The day was interspersed with devotional music in the morning, afternoon and evening. A very delicious food/snacks was also served at regular intervals. About forty devotees attended the full retreat.

 

Visit to Thousand Island Park, NY - Sunday, August 09 and Monday, August 10

Swami visited Vivekananda Retreat, Thousand Island Park, NY on August 9 and he returned to Providence on Monday, August 10.

 

Workshop in Warwick, RI- Saturday, August 15

Swami also conducted a workshop on 'One-ness' on Saturday, August 15 at Concordia Church, Warwick from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. A total of thirty-eight devotees attended this workshop.

 

Sri Krishna Festival in Norton, MA - Sunday, August 16

The annual Krishna Festival was held at the Vakil residence (Norton, MA) on Sunday, August 16 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, consisting of talks, music and luncheon. Over seventy-five devotees attended. There was devotional music, talks on life & teachings of Lord Krishna followed by a 'potluck' lunch.

 

Swami's talk at New England Institute of Technology - Warwick, Tuesday, August 18

Swami gave a class on general Hinduism to the students at the New England Institute of Technology, Warwick, RI on Tuesaday, August 18.

 

Weekend in Maine - Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23
Swami Tyagananda, Ramakrishna Vedanta Society (Boston) and Swami Yogatmananda conducted a weekend retreat at Green Acres Maine from Friday evening, August 21 till after lunch Sunday, August 23. About twenty devotees attended the retreat.

Tuesday - The Sufis - July 28, August 4, 11, 18 and 25

The Sufis stress the emphasis on experiencing the divine- a total oneness, where nothing exists apart from God. It is ultimate knowledge, the knower and the known become merged. The Sufi path is often expressed through the poetry of intense love with imageries of human love.The lives and teachings of the following Sufis were discussed in these classes:
Abu Said (967-1049 CE), Attar of Nishapur (1145-1220 CE), Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273 CE),Samsuddin Hafiz (1337-1390 CE), Omar Khayyam (1048-1122 CE), Khvaja Moinuddin Chishti (1141-1230 CE),Hazarat Lal Shabaz Qalandar (1177-1274 CE), Kabir (1440-1518 CE), Abdul Rahim Khan i-khana (1556-1627 CE), Dara Shi Koh (1615-1659 CE), Shah Vali Ullah (1703-1762 CE), Mirza Galib (1797-1869 CE) and Hazrat inyat Khan (1882-1927 CE).
